Choice Cafe

February 11, 2010

One day I was craving for Korean food, specifically, I was craving for kalbi and bulgogi. Everyone knows (if you know Korean food), that the closest and probably the best place to get true Korean food would be in the Broward area. Somehow, through Google, I found a place called Choice Café (2750 NW 3rd Ave Ste 26, Miami, FL 33127). At first, I thought it was a joke, and then I thought it was closed, furthermore I thought about their location. It is located in the Wynwood area. For those that live in Miami, Wynwood is not the very best area; which is probably the reason why they are only opened from 8:30am-5:00pm.

The restaurant is located in a desolate shopping complex which sells only wholesale products, basically an industrial zone. A plain looking restaurant, they have many tables and a buffet station. A TV is playing a random Korean DVD; I immediately fell in love with the place. The very nice, shy lady helped us out with the menu…after deep thoughts, we ordered the kalbi and the bi bim bap.

Surprisingly, banchan came out with the food as well. As I may have described prior, banchan are small dishes that are served along with Korean food. At Choice Café, the banchan consisted of kimchi, kongnamul (boiled bean sprouts with sesame oil), sigeumchi namul (spinach with sesame oil, garlic, and soy sauce), and a type of sautéed bean curd slices. The kalbi was standard, but definitely a huge change after eating pan con bistec, pan con lechons and other Latin specialties. The bi bim bap was also very good. After all that the price came up to about $20.

I realized many Korean people came in to pick up their food. Nothing special, but this is definitely the place to go if you are having a craving for Korean food.
