Coral Castle

February 19, 2010

Coral Castle (28655 South Dixie Highway, Miami, FL 33033) is probably one of cheesiest, most amazing structure you can ever see in South Florida. Created by a 5 ft, 100 lb. Latvian immigrant in the 1920s, he was able to move 1000lbs worth of coral without using modern technology.

The Latvian, Ed Leedskalnin, worked in secrecy so no one really knows how he was able to move and create these structures. There are tables with chairs, a rocking chair, a bed, and even a tub. One of the more amazing structures is his 9 ton door that can be moved with one finger, although I wasn’t allowed to try it out.

Unfortunately, we will never find out how Ed did this, but you do have a chance to take a look at his work. I highly recommend it if you are in the area.
