Anacapri On Ponce

February 26, 2010

I didn’t feel like cooking. My girlfriend didn’t feel like cooking. We’ve been cooking and eating in for the last week. So what did we do? We went to Anacapri On Ponce (2530 Ponce De Leon Boulevard, Coral Gables, FL 33134). I thought it was going to be a very stuck up place, but it was the complete opposite. The wait staff was very friendly and the place was quiet, which is just what we wanted and needed.

They have an extensive wine and liquor menu, a nice menu, and also a 3 course prix fix menu (for those that have been affected by the recession). The 3 course prix fix menu comes in 3 different prices ($18, $28, and $38), all very tasty. (I wanted to get one of each as they all had something in there which was different.)

I ordered the $38 prix fix menu and my girlfriend ordered a couple of things on the menu. Our appetizers consisted the following, the Meatballs and Sausage and the Mozzarella Anacapri. The Meatballs and Sausage came in a huge soup bowl which consisted of their homemade meatballs, Italian semi-spicy sausages and mushrooms in a Marsala wine sauce. This in itself was enough to fill me up. I used to eat a lot of this back in New Jersey, so this was refreshing. The Mozzarella Anacapri comprised of mozzarella cheese, huge ripe tomatoes, shaved prosciutto di Parma, sun-dried tomatoes, olives and artichokes. Again, the portion was huge. The tomatoes were unbelievably gigantic and juicy.

With our stomach full beyond capacity, the entrees came, the Dentice Fradiavolo and the Tortellini alla Bolognese. The Dentice Fradiavolo is sea bass with their red spicy sauce with clams and mussels. The fish was perfectly cooked as it flaked off very easily and worked very well with the spiciness of the red sauce. The Tortellini alla Bolognese is hand folded pasta stuffed with meat in a pink cream meat sauce. Sounds simple basic, but basically and simply amazing.

I would definitely come here again; it reminds me of an upscale pizzeria back from home. The prices are reasonable, the portions are huge, and the wait staff is friendly.
