Katana

March 9, 2010

Katana (920 71st Street, Miami Beach, FL 33141) is probably the closest thing to a true Japanese style fast food sushi joint. The format of the restaurant is similar to a kaiten-zushi place, also known as conveyor belt sushi. However, instead of a conveyor belt, they use small boats where you can pick up the plates. Each plate has its own color and each color has its own price. The plates are very cheap for Miami Beach prices. ($1.25-$3.75 per plate) If you do not see something you like, you can also order it from the sushi chef. There are also hot foods such as tonkatsu and shrimp tempura udon that can be ordered as well.

A quick note, there is usually a very long wait, so try to get there as early as possible.

A little note on etiquette, if you touch the plate, that’s yours, it’s very rude to put the plate back.
